I’m with Busey.
4 05 2008Yesterday Dennis and I went to the beach so he could skate and I could take Holga photos. The weekend sucks at the pier because it’s over run with boring tourists and there’s nothing interesting to photograph. Most of the day was spent taking pictures of dogs trying to bite Dennis as he rolled past them on his skateboard. I was over it. And wanted to go home when I saw him…Dressed in blue camouflage pants, a blue shirt and sporting a hat with none other then the U.S.S. Missouri Navy ship across its brim. “That’s Gary Busey!” I said. And started to go for my camera. I new it was him. He is unmistakable to me. I’m a HUGE Steven Seagal fan… I’ve probably seen Under Siege more times then you’ve seen Star Wars so I jumped at this chance to meet this legend.
Dennis warned me to approach Busey with caution…He told me about the episode of Entourage where Busey wanted to paint Drama. Actually paint ON Drama and to be mellow about my approach. I took the warning and walked up to where he was sitting quietly and calmly so not to blow up his spot.
He was watching a volleyball match and staring at the sea. I nelt beside him and whispered “Hello, can I get a picture with you?” “Speak up!” Busey said cupping his ear. I repeated. “Can I get a picture with you?” “Sure, What’s your name?” and he shook my hand. “Jamie” I said. He stood up, wrapped his hands around my body and held me high on the ribs. Dennis took two photos. Busey kissed me on my forehead and sat back down in an indian position. He asked me where I was from and told us story’s about death and going to the other side. Then Dennis made the mistake of making an uncomfortable joke and Busey smelled fear….Busey turned his full attention on Dennis. “Are you afraid of commitment?” Busey asked. “Yeah, I guess” Dennis swallowed. Busey started in on life and living in the present, not the past, not the future, but now. Then just when Busey was about to tell us the meaning of life his phone started to ring. He told us he had to take the call and excused himself. And like that it was over…We said goodbye and walked away. “We just had that experience” I said. “And I didn’t even get to tell him how much I love Under Siege…Damn it.”
Later on that night we rented Under Seige from the video store because Dennis had never seen it. After the movie I asked Dennis “was that the best action movie ever made or what?” Dennis said “Under siege is fucking cheesy!” We haven’t spoken in something like 17 hours. I plan to keep it that way….

This is the first episode of “I’m with Busey” an AMAZING show about hanging out with Gary Busey. It was on Comedy Central like 3 years ago. You can now see all the episodes on You-Tube.

This is fucking brilliant and I am so completely jealous! I could quote Point Break for fucking weeks. And even moreso,…I know people think the guy’s a loon but I think I’d have sawed off my own pinky toe to have sat there and listened to that man’s stories. In all fairness I have my own little timeless moments like that with Peter Fonda, Johnny Marr, Ronnie James Dio. Not that I’m bragging,..more cooling off the envy! Jesus I love L.A.
And what’s worse? I was in Santa Monica yesterday too. Shit. I don’t think I would’ve had the brass to walk up to him though…
Mad kudos.

that’s probably the sickest celebrity siting story ever. not only did you meet him, but you had a conversation about death, commitment, and living in the present. some people have decade-long relationships and don’t discuss shit that deep.
this blog entry is also better on weed, btw. o, i guess most blog entries are then.
Gary Busey’s best roll, I think, is in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. You have to have seen it, and if you havent GO RENT IT NOW!! Hes a fat cop that pulls Dr. Gonzo over. The best part is when he says “Can I have a little kiss before you go?”
I want to meet Unicron…

Fucking amazing! I love that people love Gary as much as me!
“Hey! Get my pies outta the oven!” Being a cook, I hold that up as being one of the best movie lines ever.
BTW, that’s a great vintage-looking JD shirt.
