Sundancers

Last night Erica McLean, Mandy Morbid and I attended a prayer circle and fundraiser for the Rosebud Sundance ceremony. (check out the links below to get info about the Lakota Sundancers)

The crowd was a little to hippy for me. I’m not into meditation, prayer and ‘Burning Man’ but I do have huge respect for Native American culture so I was very honored to be invited. The best part of the evening was their speaker. She was a real Lakota Sundancers, she educated the group about the Sundance, sang songs and collected prayers to take with her to the ceremony. It was a really special experience.

After a while the hippy vibe started to take it’s toll on Mandy and I so we grabbed Erica and walked across the street to a whiskey bar called Seven Grand. At this point the three of us were ready for a cold beer.

We sat for a bit talking about the fundraisers and gossiping. A Jazz band started playing and they were really good. We walked up to get a closer look and I noticed Robert Vargas doing charcoal portraits in front of the band. The last time I saw him he was doing a nude portrait of April Flores at his studio during Downtown Artwalk. I introduced myself and he asked me if I’d like to pose for him. He was so cute I couldn’t turn him down and said “yes.”
